Question: My wife and I will be making our first visit to Vietnam this coming Jan for five weeks and would like some advice and places to visit that are not main tourists sites. We prefer interacting with local residents and small quite beaches and villages without all the trappings geared toward tourists. Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You so much

Best places to visit are North West and North East of Vietnam, Hoi An ancient Town and Phu Quoc Island.
North West and North East of Vietnam are good for adventure tour to the origin of Vietnam, You can stay in the local house of hill tribes, enjoy the moutainious areas, traditional markets,
Hoi An is the most peaceful town in Vietnam, the best escape from the heat of the city, You can cycle to traditional villages arround the this Ancient Town of lazy in the quite beach - Cua Dai
Phu Quoc Island is the best Island in Vietnam, It's located in the South of Vietnam 1 hour flight from Ho chi Minh City, friendly local people, quite and beautiful beaches.

Masoud Askari - AE
Answer:
Hi Askari,
The first nite in HCMC then fly to Da Lat, 1 night in this city is enough then drive to Nha Trang, Sunrise Nha Trang beach hotel and Spa could be meet your need, the rate is lower than Ana Madara but service is very good, this one is located in the central of the city.
If you would like to escape from the city White Sand beach resort and Spa will be a good choice for both Quality and Price ( from 90 usd up per nite)
Have a good time!

Answer:
Hi Sandhya,
For Vietnam and Cambodia tour You need at least 14 days and the rest is Bali. but Phu Quoc Island and Phan thiet beach in Vietnam are interesting place Where there are more and more tourists come to relax every day Why dont you spend all these 18 days in Vietnam and Cambodia ( 15 days in Vietnam and 3 days in Cambodia) so you can spend 5-7days at the beach without moving so much on your holiday?
the route should be :
Hanoi arrival, Halong, hue, Hoi An, HCMC , Mekong delta then Phu Quoc Island or Phan Thiet beach then fly to Cambodia for Phnom penh, Siem REap and departure?

Question: Hey, me and my boyfriend will most likely be on a 2 to 3 weeks vacation to Vietnam in July 2010. We want to travel from Saigon to Hanoi along the coastline. Could you please advise us where we should go to see the highlights of the country whilst also enjoying a relaxing holiday at the beach?

J. Fischer
Answer:
HI Fischer,
That time is summer in Vietnam so beaches are full of sun in Vietnam. I think you should spend about 3 weeks from the South to the North. Stop in HCMC then mekong delta for about 2 days. Phan thiet beach about 5 days then upward to Nha Trang beach. After that Hoi An and Hue are best destination for the culture and beach. stop in Hoi An for visiting Ancient Town, relaxing at the beach. 5 days for Hue and Hoi An is ok. then fly to Hanoi. visit Halong Bay overnight on cruise. the last desitination is Sapa where you can discover the hill tribes and fresh air.
Have a good time!

Question: Hi, I am planning for my honeymoon. We are planning to go for the trip either in november or december, 2010.
Kindly advise which month is better and where in vietnam should we go to? We are city-dwellers who have been too caught up with the fast paced life in singapore and thus we are looking for a getaway, that will do some soul cleansing and just indulge in ourselves with worries at bay.
I have heard of danang and dalat too. But I rather, an expert offer their advice.
Thanks,
ayu

Answer:
Hi Ayu,
By this time, the best place should be Phu Quoc Island, no rain, nice tide for the beach, However Phan Thiet beach is also another choice for you.
There will be some rain or flood in Hoi An, rain in Nha Trang. and you also should spend 2 or 3 days in Halong bay overnight on Cruise, this should not be missed.
Have a good time!

Answer:
Hi Munro,
I'd like to suggest you the itinerary as below :
Day 1 : HCMC arrival
Day 2 : HCMC city tour - Cu chi
Day 3 : HCMC - Mekong Delta one day
Day 4 : HCMC - Phu Quoc
Day 5,6: Phu Quoc Island
Day 7 : Phu Quoc HCMC
Day 8 : HCMC - Hoi An
Day 9 : Hoi An
DAy 10 : Hoi An - Hanoi
Day 11 : Hanoi City tour
Day 12 : Halong Bay overnight on Cruise
Day 13 : Halong Hanoi
DAy 14 : Hanoi Departure
In my opinion Phu Quoc Island is much better than in Nha Trang : Cheaper resorts, nice and clean beach, less tourists.
For the shopping you can do it in Hanoi and Sai gon, however many tourists come to Hoi an for tailor long dress, skirt ... the main clothe is silk.
Have a good time!

Question: Thnak you for your answer... just a couple more questions.
is 1 day on the mekong delta enough or should we do 2?
Which areas are we most likely to get the most rain in August? Are we best to book tours before we come or just when we get there?
Thank You
Rhonda

Rhonda Munro - NZ
Answer:
Hi Munro,
For the Mekong Delta Tour one day is ok because you visit the same styles of countryside and floating market. In August It rains more in the North of Vietnam (Hanoi, Halong).
You should book all services in advance because When you arrive they may be fully booked especially flight tickets and good hotels. If you take tours of Backpackers, You should book when arrive.
have a good time!
