Located 30km north-east of Vung Tau, the main
attraction of Long Hai are the sweeping clean white beaches which have in recent
years become a favourite with Vietnamese tourists. The most interesting time to
visit is just after the Tet (Vietnamese New Year) festival when hundreds of
fishing boats converge on Long Hai on a fisherman's pilgrimage to worship at the
Mo Co Temple. Around Long Hai are the caves at Minh Dam, underground tunnels at
Dia Dao, and the Chua Phap Hoa Pagoda.
Vung Tau is located on the coast 125km
south-east of Ho Chi Minh City and has become a favourite weekend destination
for residents of Vietnam's largest city. There are a few pagodas around Vung Tau
and you can hike up the two mountains on the nearby peninsula, but Vung Tau is
primarily a party town with plenty of cafes, bars, restaurants and a few discos.
